ARENA REGULATIONS

NO DOGS, except service dogs in any buildings or in the stalling area.

NO ALCOHOL permitted on the grounds, and NO SMOKING in any buildings or stalling area.

2008 Show Guidelines

This is an AOBA certified show and will strictly follow all rules in the most current Show Division Handbook plus all addendums. All classes will be combined or divided according to the AOBA rules.

  • All alpacas entered in and present at the show must be ARI registered before they can be shown or on the venue, and a copy for all animals/fleeces is required to be sent with the entry form. All alpacas entered in the show or present at the venue will be checked for microchip identification and health certificates. Our reader is an Avid universal. If your chips will not register on that, you are responsible for providing a reader compatible with your particular chips.
  • All exhibitors must fill out the Exhibitor Disclosure statement and submit a copy with the entry papers. The link to the form is on the show website. For the Southern Select 2008, Jude Anderson will judge females, Jill MacLeod will judge males, and Amanda VandenBosch will judge performance and fleeces.
  • All animals must be entered in the name of the owner as listed on the ARI Registration Certificate or Buyer's Permission to Show Form (which must be signed by the owner listed on the ARI Registration Certificate.)
  • Carefully color check each animal by parting the fiber at mid-side and use the ARI color chart to determine the correct color by checking closest to the skin and by using the Color Definitions as found in the 2008 AOBA Show Division Handbook and Addendums. The handbook and addendums will take precedence.
  • Entries made in the Get of Sire and Produce of Dam classes are entered in the name of the Sire or Dam. These animals are also required to pay the entry fees.
  • Entries in the Open Gelding Classes, Class 100, will be eligible for cash prizes for the winners. Details to be announced at the show.
  • Performance classes will receive cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as well as ribbons for places 1-6.
  • For questions contact Peg Stephens at 812-294-4880 or pegstephens@earthlink.net.

Fleece Show Guidelines

This is an AOBA certified fleece show and will strictly follow all rules in the most current AOBA Show Division Handbook plus all addendums. All classes will be combined or divided according to the AOBA rules.

  • Please enter all fleeces on the Fleece Show entry form.
  • Send with the entry form a copy of the alpaca's ARI Registration Certificate for each fleece entered.
  • Fleeces must be presented in clear plastic bags, with completed fleece show entry tag by 8:00 pm on Friday, February 29, 2008.
  • Shearing must have taken place within the last 380 days. Information needed is age at time of shearing, previous shearing date, current shearing date, and number of days growth.
  • For questions, contact Cheryl Gehly, Fleece Show Superintendent at 508-883-9051.

Entry Deadline

Entries must be submitted electronically or postmarked by January 25, 2008.

  • Entries postmarked after Jan. 25, 2008, must pay the late fees.
  • No refund of entry fee will be allowed unless a veterinarian's certificate of illness, injury or death is presented to the show superintendent by 8 pm on Friday, February 29, 2008. No refunds/cancellations of stall space after February 15, 2008.
  • Substitutions after the show book goes to print (about 2 weeks before the show) will be charged an entry fee.

Health Regulations

Please contact Kay Kemp, kaykemp@earthlink.net, with questions.

  1. All animals brought to the Southern Select Alpaca Show (on display or entered in the show) are required to have a general health certificate from your vet within 30 days of the last day of the show if you come from a Class A state (brucellosis and TB free). If your state is not considered Class A, you are required to have a Brucellosis test within 30 days of the show and a TB test within 60 days of the show as well as a general health certificate from your vet within 30 days of the last day of the show.
  2. Proof of a negative BVD test on animals entering the show grounds is required. Acceptable tests are PCR or VI. Please call Kay Kemp for questions, 931-684-1700.
  3. The alpaca's name, negative BVDV test results by PCR or VI, and microchip number must be indicated on the CVI.
  4. Bring a copy of your CVI to give to the Show Superintendent to keep with their show records.

Stalling information

Stalls are 10 X 10 "horse" stalls with wood on the bottom half and bars on the top. When doing your pen assignments, please take into consideration that animals may not be able to see other animals. You may wish to bring corral panels to place in front of your stalls so as to leave the stall doors open for easier viewing or better socializing of the animals. Only three animals per stall.

  • Companion animals will be allowed if they are ARI registered, meet all health requirements, and are BVD negative for PCR or VI.
  • We are NOT providing bedding. Please bring your own stall mats. If you do not have stall mats, please see Tack Vendor information below.
  • Displays will be allowed in the aisles; however, be sure to leave enough room for animals and people to comfortably maneuver through. An extra stall for farm displays may be purchased if you so desire.
  • Sponsors and working volunteers will receive priority stalling.
  • Security arrangements for your alpacas to stay over on Sunday night will be provided. Please remove animals by 9 AM Monday. Please indicate on the registration form your intent to stay on Sunday night.
  • Questions about stalling should be directed to David Carrell, Barn Manager, at david@carrellfarms.com.

Tack Vendor

This year we have invited Quality Llama Products to be the Tack Vendor for Southern Select. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and save money on shipping. You can find out more about them at www.alpacasupplies.com. Stall mats can be preordered for $39.00 each by contacting Larry Dietsch (phone: 706-379-2361). Since no bedding will be provided at the show, this is an opportunity to save on shipping and is a discount from the catalog price. Checks should be made out to SEAA and mailed to Larry Dietsch at 1952 Gibson Road, Young Harris, GA 30582.

SeAA Membership

See our website, www.sealpaca.org for details and benefits. You must be a Farm Member of the SeAA prior to registration for the Southern Select 2008 to receive special member benefits for the show.
